Today an announcement came out of Pennsylvania that a commission has been put together by the Senate Legislative Budget and Finance Committee. This commission will be used to study the potential for legalized and regulated online gambling in the state.
State Senator and Chairman of the Community, Economic and Recreational Development Committee Senator Kim Ward commented on the announcement saying, “We have a goal with this commission, we want to see what the overall benefits of a legalized online gambling industry in this state would be. If there is any benefits to a legalized gambling industry we must make sure that it doesn’t effect was we presently have in place. We will take a look at land based gambling in our state as a whole and see if the two industries will collide with one another. If they don’t then we shall more than likely regulate and legalize online gambling in our state.”
She continued on by saying, “I do believe that it is a very good idea to legalize online gambling in our state. When you look towards New Jersey and see all of the tax revenues their bringing in for the state its impressive. If we could bring in the same revenues it could greatly help us better our state. We are hoping to get the answers from the commission next week.”
Pennsylvania does have pressure from its two sister states to legalize online gambling. Delaware and New Jersey both offer legal online gambling. Both states having positive results from legalizing gambling online.
